Wagenya

The Wagenya fishermen are a group of traditional fishermen living near Kisangani in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are known for their unique ancestral fishing technique, which involves using wooden scaffolds and handwoven baskets to trap fish in the rapids. The fishermen operate near Boyoma Falls, a series of seven cataracts on the Congo River. This stretch of the river is known for its turbulent waters, making it ideal for their methods.
